-Going back to the topic of canvass art, was this around the time you erased the notion of Realism and you specifically switched to working explicitly on Expressionist Art?

Yes, during this time I was able to get out of experiments on the materials and to begin my research into moderation and construction for my artwork on the full scale.

Because there is no such a concept like abstract art in the Traditional Korean Art, it was important for me to find out how the traditional ink used by Korea and China, would react with the different kinds of paper, and how each stroke would turn out.

This is why my training had to begin with the careful observation of nature, and finally ended up with the actual depiction of my interpretation. Coincidentally, artists RAE HYUN PARK and YOUNG WO0 KWON, were also starting to work on abstract art then, and I was able to be constantly be within the midst of abstract art, and in the company of fellow artists working in the same field as me.

However, art does not always separate from one's daily life so I go through an interesting experience at this time. I was living in an apartment facing the south, and I was trying to screen some light from the window with blinds. There, a bit of light escaped and reflected on my baby's diaper cloth that was drying overhead on the wires.

I had a particular feeling of inspiration while looking at this scene, where form and structure combined to create an idea of an image in my mind. I had the image of old women in prayer together.

It is at this point, the theme for my work started to form within my mind. Even now, I(한국화가 송수련,한지화가 송수련,송수련 화백,宋秀璉,SONG SOO RYUN,송수련 작가,Hanji Painter SONG SOO RYUN,한지작가 송수련,종이회화 송수련,여류중견화가 송수련, KOREA PAPER ARTIST SONG SOO RYUN, KOREAN PAPER ARTIST SONG SOO RYUN) always try to look around my environment to discover if there isn't a new form of expression or interpretation waiting to be discovered.
