In Young Ho Chuu’s works, he has been persistently focusing his effort on the very individual space ‘houses in the city’ for a long time. He has childhood memories of just watching his own hometown disappeared with rapid urbanization process as time went by.

These bittersweet memories became his sorrowful, dynamic nostalgia for houses and could be the key to the beginning of his varied works on houses.

While constantly playing his own variation of houses, he became aware that chosen one frame by ‘functionally capturing the moments’ of photography itself had limits to express the sentiments of houses, landscape in his childhood hometown fully.

So, he decided to ‘capture the moments manually’ by making a collage with drawings & numerous pieces of picture to show his deeper sentiments, meanings, interpretation on houses.

As a result, he came to make the all-handmade collage series “Life in the City” with his own unique drawing-pictures crossover by passing through many fragmented & reconstructed stages like drawing, pictures-shooting, cutting & pasting and so on.

By the year 2017, his works have been newly evolved through the meet of new technology, Google Earth, and he was able to show “Beyond the Look of City” as the enhanced collage series of Life in the City.
