◇The Point of Resonance(조응(照應)의 지점)

Returning as the panorama of light, the utopia in Artificial Landscape suggests to find its origin not in a certain genesis of the linear history but in a mythic Urgeschichte which should be re-called and re-turn. Some may say that such aspiration to a utopia which never existed is a mere illusion.

상실된 낙원이 빛의 파노라마로 돌아온 ‘인공풍경’은 그 발원점을 역사의 보편사가 아니라 일종의 신화적인 원사(原史, Urgeschichte)에서 찾는다. 혹자는 존재한 적도 없는 유토피아를 그리워하는 것은 허망한 꿈이요 미망(迷妄)이라 일갈할지도 모른다.

But if we merely see a vain dream in the field of light where the past dream and the present urge converge as one in a fleeting moment, we would miss the real merit of illumination. The eternal charm of a utopia lies in its demand to be realized in reality. Only when we see the image of the future sparked by the past becomes Artificial Landscape the constellation of here and now, in which each particular present reaches out a redemptive hand to each particular past. It consists of particles of hope.

그러나 과거와 현재가, 대상과 주체가 모순을 끌어안은 채로 일체가 되어 있는 빛의 공간에서 꿈의 미혹만을 본다면 서양화가 김종숙 빛의 진면목을 놓친 것이다. 현실계로 편입되지 못한 유토피아가 욕망의 스크린에서 명멸할 때 우리는 현재의 시간으로 깨어나 장차 실현되어야 할 미래의 모습을 그 욕망의 화면에서 찾을 것이다. 과거에서 점화된 미래의 형상을 볼 때 ‘인공풍경’은 깨달음의 풍경이 된다.
