In particular, Korean paper plays an important role of catalyzer which materializes colour qualities. It has a significant differences when filtering colours through Korean papers. In addition, with the use of Korean low color-scheme and ocher, creating the atmosphere of Korean primary five colours, the harmony with Korean paper and oil colours can be the visual characteristics of Park s work.

By doing so, he tries to find out material foundation on his canvas. By this time, we can understand what this artist initially intended. Here, English title, Affectionate Things, ignite our special concerns and interests. The title, when quote from his Note, was not only an alternative of his questions, "what should I paint?," but also a symbol of his existence perse. The two facts can be understood from his Note:

『①=When I was a undergraduate student, I had worried about what to express. In the graduate school course, I produced the work which was rubbed with the power of black iron on a canvas. It was the time when I was affectioned and captivated by the quality of material.

Later, when I started to execute engravings or prints, I was concerned about a symbolic characteristic of the arrow when treated it on the board. An arrow has a significant symbolic quality in that it can link the past with the present and even with the future. I was interested in linking time and space.

My recent work in which pottery and Chinese characters were described can be said to be characterized by its expressiveness. For me, it is very affectionate things. Because these things encouraged me to experiment various expressive methods, it can make me approach to painting.

②=Although I cannot remember the whole things as I read it for so long time ago, there should be common things remained. The one thing is, a special quality of lofty pride in which one' s self ego is firmly situated. This loftiness is an expression of one' s existence of clear soul. The other thing is a subtle clearness and refreshment like a figure of Little Price in ultramarine background, as if escaped from contaminated human environment.』

These two data are partly adopted from the catalogue of his private exhibition held in 1999. It seemed that his intention still alive. The former shows us how his interests in material quality and affectionate things has been originated. The latter, however, tells us what he has wanted to pursue in terms of artistic values. They includes not only a lofty pride, loneness, and crystal clear clarity of the self, but also a wish of transcending and fleeing from the mundane world.

With this intention, this artist wanted to find out in historical things and by doing so, his arrow and target in board, or/and traditional pots and Chinese characters could be made its appearance on his(한지작가 박동윤,한지화가 박동윤,ARTIST PARK DONG YOON,한지부조 박동윤,Korean paper PARK DONG YOON,Hanji Painter PARK DONG YOON,박동윤 교수,朴東潤) canvas. Recently he has a urge to materialize the image of life and Korean papers.
