■4테마=동대문운동장

80년 역사의 동대문 운동장은 일제의 간계에 의해 흥인지문과 광희문간 서울성곽을 허물고 일본 동궁의 결혼을 기념하기 위해 만들어진 슬픈 역사를 가지고 있다. 이후에는 스포츠로 힘든 우리들의 마음을 녹여 주었던 아련한 추억도 있다.

그 운동장도 나이가 들어 허물어진다. 물리적으로 허물어지지만, 우리 마음속에는 추억으로 살아있을 것이다. 그래서 동대문 운동장에는 사라져가는 동물들, 사슴, 오소리, 황새들을 불러모아 자유롭게 뛰노는 모습을 상상해보았다. 사라지지만 사라지지 않아야 할 생명과 기억을 다시 불러본다.

◇Theme4=Dongdaemun Stadium

The Dongdaemun Stadium constructed 80 years ago had a sad history as it was built after breaking down the Seoul wall fortress between Heunginjimun and Gwanghuimun to celebrate a Japanese crown prince’s wedding. We have dim memories of the stadium where many sports events soothed our heavy hearts.

The stadium collapsed over time, but will ever remain a delightful memory. I have thus imagined disappearing animals such as deer, badgers, and storks running free in the stadium. I call upon life forms and memories that should not die out together.

■5테마=동대문

500년 역사를 가진 동대문은 약한 산세를 비보하기 위하여 흥인지문(興仁之門)이라고도 불렸다. 서울 동쪽으로 나가는 큰 문인만큼 과거부터 현재까지 수많은 애환들을 간직하고 있다.

숭례문과 더불어 저의(ARTIST HUR JIN,許塡,허진 작가,한국화가 허,HUR JIN,허진 교수,허진 화백,A Painter HUR JIN) 어릴 적 추억에 강렬하게 남아있는 동대문은 일제에 의해 성곽이 훼손되어 수도 방위기능은 사라졌지만 그 존재감만으로도 우리 민족의 자긍심을 살아나게 하는 묘한 매력이 있다. 이러한 점에 주목하여 동대문의 역사적 흔적과 애환을 화면에 부각시키고 싶었다.

특히, 방화에 의해 숭례문이 재로 변한 지금 이 동대문의 위상을 더 높이고 싶은 열망이 있다. 화면에 부유하는 유목동물은 동대문의 잃어버린 낙원 복원의 염원을 담고 있으며, 이와 더불어 동대문의 독특한 이미지를 대비시켜 여러분께 상상의 이야기를 풀어 놓아보았다.

◇Theme5=Dongdaemun

Dongdaemun, with a history spanning 500 years, has been called Heunginjimun. As it was once a huge gateway to the east of Seoul, it is filled with joy and sorrow. The memory of this gate alongside Sungnyemun is stuck in my mind.

Although its fortress wall was destroyed by the Japanese Empire, it has a mysterious magnetism that provokes our national pride with its existence alone. Taking note of this aspect, I’d like to emphasize its historical traces, joys, and sorrows.

As Namdaemun, officially known as Sungnyemun, has now been severely damaged by arson, I aspire to raise its status. The nomadic animals floating in the scene express my wish to restore the image of Dongdaemun as the paradise lost. I reel off an imaginary narrative in contrast with its unique images.
