■2테마=동대문디자인플라자&파크

동대문디자인플라자&파크는 동대문 지역의 역사와 문화를 끌어안고 사람, 자연, 문명이 조화롭게 공생하는 생태적·미래적 공간으로 거듭난다. 생활을 편하고 아름답게 하는 디자인이 이곳으로 모이고 또 세계로 전파되어 우리의 삶의 질을 높여 줄 것이다.

또한 2010세계디자인수도 서울(WDC Seoul 2010)을 상징하는 랜드마크이다. 작품은 동대문디자인플라자&파크를 설계한 건축가 자하 하디드의 작품 ‘환유(換喩)의 풍경’이미지를 차용했다. 그것으로 앞으로 완성될 미래지향적 건축미와 동물, 식물, 디지털 문물들을 중첩시켜 허진(ARTIST HUR JIN,許塡,한국화가 허진,HUR JIN,허진 교수,허진 화백,A Painter HUR JIN)작가는 녹지·휴식·문화 복합공간이미지를 그렸다.

◇Theme2=Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park

Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park (DDPP) is an ecological, futuristic space where nature harmoniously coexists with civilization, embracing the Dongdaemun area’s history and culture. This space will be a design hub where designs that make our lives convenient and beautiful congregate and spread throughout the world, improving the quality of life.

The DDPP is a landmark symbolic of the World Design Capital Seoul (WDC Seoul). This work appropriates the image of a “metonymic landscape,” a concept adopted by Zaha Hadid who designed the DDPP. Depicted under this theme are the images of a green area, a feeling of relaxation, and a complex cultural space with the beauty of a future-oriented architectural structure overlaid with images of animals, plants, and digital civilization.

■3테마=광화문해치

차를 몰고 광화문 앞을 지날 때마다 해치를 본다. 어찌 보면 무섭기도, 또 어찌 보면 부드럽게 미소를 짓는 것 같다. 묘한 매력이 있는 녀석이다. 그래서 이 해치가 과거에는 궁궐을 지키고 있었고, 지금은 서울의 상징이 되었나 보다.

해치는 옳고 그름을 판단할 수 있는 신수(神獸)라고 합니다. 이 해치를 화면 중앙에 위치시키고 그와 어울리는 자연 그대로의 동식물을 자유롭게 배치하여 불의(不義)가 감히 범접하지 못하는 청정 공간 서울을 꿈꾸어 보았다.

◇Theme3=Gwanghwamun haechi

Whenever I pass by Gwanghwamun in a car, I see haechi. In some ways it is scary but it smiles at me gently. It has a subtle allure. That’s why it guarded the palace in the past and is now considered a symbol of Seoul.

Haechi has been referred to as “divine animal” that has the ability to judge between right and wrong. I dream of Seoul as a pure, undefiled space away from injustice by placing this haechi in the middle of the scene and arranging animals and plants freely around it.
