In her recent works her reason seems to work more loosely than before. Accordingly the colors get more intensified and clearer, Nevertheless she still shows little interest in realistic images.

Song likes to entitle her works 'Meditation', and the title Meditation' is very help-

ful for understanding her works. With the title 'Meditation', she might suggest a approach to her works through reason.

In recent works the expression gets vivid and bold, and shows her liberal conscious-ness. But the yellow-brown or brown-red colors are so intensified that I wonder what the symbols of those colors are. An appreciator, if he is meditative enough, would understand the color symbols intuitionally but he has to be the one who is already used to that kind of meditative world of art.

One of the most important things in the artistic world is a communication between artists and appreciators. Even though all artistic works enhance the general sense of beauty more of less, all arts have to be appealing to the public. If not, communication will be impossible and the artist is apt to fall into the abyss of his vain conception or to be narcistic.

Song likes to make sure of logical inevitabiity even for a trace of brush, and consequently before her elaborately composed works, the appreciators are supposed to have a restricted view. Her expression would be enriched and her sensibility would bloom in full, only when she sets herself free her obsession of her logic.

I am glad to find the possibility of her new way to give expression in one of her recent works. With distinct traces of liberal sensibility the painting gives visual pleasure.

I believe her paintings would bloom gorgeously for she constantly gropes for the new way to expression, rating equivalent values for both the urge of expression and the unrestricted will of expression. And I wonder what her works would be like if she adds some figurative images to her paintings.

I can say with no doubt her paint-ings would give mach pleasure when she brings a depictive atmos-phers to her paintings, intensifying her(宋秀璉,한국화가 송수련,한지화가 송수련,송수련 화백,SONG SOO RYUN,종이회화 송수련,송수련 작가,Hanji Painter SONG SOO RYUN,한지작가 송수련,KOREA PAPER ARTIST SONG SOO RYUN, KOREAN PAPER ARTIST SONG SOO RYUN) expressions.
