Like yesterday, I was stuck inside the studio of the home atelier at the hill where has a panoramic view of Namhan River under my feet. As time silence came to me, I lost in thoughts and enjoyed the time, which is only for me. I set my passion here to delight in this kind of blissful time.

I mostly worked hard with still life paintings. The painting with the inanimate objects has been called ‘still life.’ ‘Still’ means there is no movement; it can be explained as the meaning of silence. In short, it holds the time elapsed rapidly not to move for a while.

I would try to stop the moment of the life, which has gone through the age. Yet I do not reflect or illustrate directly. I actually shape the flow of time in my way with a certain intention. I prefer to draw the still lifes with usual objects which can be easily found in the daily life.

The ordinary motifs like glasses, liquor bottles and vases would become the main character in my paintings although I sometimes use the old items such as Chosun white porcelains or earthen pots. It is because they are closely related to the feeling of affinity that the viewer can have.

As they are accustomed visually in the daily life, they would become quite familar psychologically without feeling disharmony. Sometime I(ARTIST KOO CHA SOONG,具滋勝,서양화가 구자승,구자승 작가,구자승 화백,KOO CHA SOONG) paint various motifs to induce the unusual feeling.
