손문자(ARTIST SOHN MOON JA, 孫文子)작가의 근작에서 두드러지게 나타나는 또 하나의 요소는 이른바 면의 분할이다. 이것은 궁극적으로 인체의 포즈와 이로 인한 화의(畵意)의 표출에 따라 이루어지는 것이지만, 근작의 두드러진 특징 중의 하나이다. 원색적인 화려한 면과 어두우면서도 침잠된 면들의 대비가 선명하게 드러나면서 전체적으로는 경쾌하고 발랄한 분위기를 자아내고 있다.

그의 근작들은 그가 이제까지 관심을 쏟아왔던 풍경 내지는 정물화로부터 선회화여 인체를 주된 소재로 삼으면서 가꿔온 내면의 심상 풍경을 보여준다. 그리고 그것들은 작가 개인의 입장에서 볼 때는 새로운 출발이자 모색이요, 또 다른 세계로의 여행이 아닐 수 없다. 예술이미지의 세계에 대한 도전이라고 할 때 서양화가 손문자는 새로운 도전을 하고 있는 것이다.
