Sooman Moon’s works create a dynamic stage where such conflicting values push and pull each other. There’s only center within round works, make difference among the works. The works that infinitely return in repetition and difference pass [The gate of time] just like the title of a displayed work.

문수만 작가 작품은 상반된 가치들이 밀고 당기는 역동적인 장을 이룬다. 둥근 작품들에는 중심이 있는 자리가 있을 뿐, 어느 한 점으로의 환원은 없다. 그리고 다양한 중심들 사이에 분포하는 형상들이 작품들 간의 차이를 만든다. 반복과 차이 속에서 무한 회귀하는 작품들은 전시 작품의 한 제목처럼 [시간의 문]을 통과한다.

[The gate of time] series, which has the image of bronze mirror relic, implies the rear of the mirror, that is, temporality as well as a space. Mirror fixates a human being to the request of imagination, however, the point of minding the other side instead of the surface of the mirror is to distribute the self to the axis of time. Generally, relics are excavated in the historic site, and the process of corrosion is delayed since they are stored in a museum. Temporality is intervened with variables a lot.

청동거울 유물의 이미지가 있는 [시간의 문] 시리즈는 거울의 뒷면, 즉 공간이면서도 시간성을 암시한다. 거울은 인간을 상상의 요구에 맞춰 고착시키지만, 거울의 표면이 아니라 이면을 염두에 두는 것은 시간의 축 속에 자아를 배치하는 것이다. 통상적으로 유물은 현장에서 발굴되고 박물관에 보존된 이후에는 부식의 과정이 완화된다. 시간성에는 변수가 많이 개입된다.

The artist, also, went through quite a few trials and errors on determination whether of stopping this process getting old. According to him, some of his works were spoiled. Even it was easier to finish neatly as previous works. That belongs to the process to open a finished process. That is to apply coincidence to an inevitable context. In this exhibition, more processes were added to imply temporality, including scratched or corroded shape, or the shapes buried or coincidentally revealed.

서양화가 문수만(洋家 ムンスマン,文水萬) 역시 어느 순간에 이 낡아지는 과정을 멈추게 할 것인지에 대한 결정에 적지 않은 시행착오를 거쳤다. 그의 말로는 ‘망치기 직전까지’ 간 작품도 꽤 있었다. 이전 작품처럼 깔끔하게 마무리하는 것이 더 쉬울 정도였다. 그것은 완결된 과정을 열어놓는 것에 해당한다. 필연적인 맥락에 우연성을 도입하는 것을 말한다. 이번 전시에서 긁히고 부식된 형태, 파묻혀지거나 우연적으로 드러난 형태들을 비롯하여, 시간성을 암시하기 위해 더 많은 공정이 추가되었다.
