이와 같은 극사실적인 묘사 이외에도 단색조의 색채이미지 또한 그의 미학적인 관점을 명료하게 보여준다. 현실적인 색채감각을 버리고 청회색조의 단색으로 일관하는 것은 전통적인 사실주의 미학과는 다른 길임을 역설한다. 색채를 제거함으로써 전통적인 사실주의 미학과의 일정한 거리를 두려는 의도인 것이다.

Selection of solid color, along with the extremely realistic depiction, shows his aesthetic approach. He chose grayish blue, not colors of the real image, quite different from traditional realism.

자연색 대신에 단색조를 사용했을 때 말 그 자체에 대한 집중력과 몰입도를 높일 수 있다. 따라서 이러한 시각적인 효과를 바탕으로, 역주할 때의 그 격동적인 힘과 그로부터 비롯되는 생동감이 얼마나 큰 감동을 안겨줄 수 있는가를 실증하려는 것인지 모른다.

He may intend to leave some distance from traditional realism by removing natural colors. Also, solid colors effectively make viewers to focus and be immersed in a horse itself. These visual effects may be used to testify that a galloping horse’s dynamic power and liveliness from the power can be immensely impressive.

이로써 알 수 있듯이 그의 작업은 전통적인 사실주의 미학과는 엄연히 다른 길을 지향한다. 청회색조의 단색적인 색채이미지는 물론이거니와 추상적인 배경 등 일련의 조형적인 해석이 그렇다.

As such, his works are apparently different from aesthetics of traditional realism; his figurative interpretation also proves that with his selection of grayish blue and abstract settings of his artworks.

비록 사실적인 묘사라는 점에서는 사실주의 한 범주로 받아들일 수 있다. 하지만 그가 추구하는 세계는 말의 생리적인 특성을 부각시키는데 의미를 둔다. 어느 면에서 말이 가지고 있는 잠재적인 본성, 즉 야성을 시각화하는데 있다고도 할 수 있다.

It may fall into one type of realism. However, the artistic world he pursues is aimed at highlighting a horse’s physiological features. In some ways, it may also be aimed at visualizing wildness, an innate instinct of a horse.

그의 최근 작업에서는 말이라는 동물이 가지고 있는 그 형태적인 아름다움과 더불어 생리적인 특징으로서의 아름다움을 강조한다. 강인한 체구의 골격과 근육이 발산하는 힘을 극적인 이미지로 부각시킨다. 한마디로 극사실적인 묘사가 만들어내는 말의 생리적인 특징 및 특성을 통해 야성의 아름다움이 무엇인가를 실감하게 된다.

Jang’s recent works highlight beauty in a horse’s shape as well as its physiological features. His works take power from a horse’s strong body, bones, and muscles to an extreme.
