서울은 벚꽃이 흐드러지게 필 무렵이 가장 아름다운 것 같다. 한국에 온 뒤로 내가 가장 좋아하는 계절은 봄이 됐다. 겨울을 이겨낸 꽃들의 색깔이 도시 전체를 물들이면 가벼운 스커트에 선글라스를 끼고 봄의 거리를 돌아다닐 수 있게 되니 말이다. 그래서 오늘은 이 봄에 어울리는 메이크업과 내가 즐겨 쓰는 제품에 대해서 소개해보려고 한다.

올 봄은 나는 핑크를 활용한 투명한 피부 표현과 밝은 색의 아이 메이크업을 즐기고 있다. 싱그럽고 여성스러운 메이크업을 돕는 5가지 제품이 있다. 첫 번째 제품은 ‘아이오페 에어쿠션 블러셔’ 로즈핑크 색상이다. 이 제품의 용기는 아이오페 에어쿠션과 꼭 같은 모양으로 크기만 더 작고 귀여워졌다.

이 제품은 베이스 제품을 바르듯 ‘톡톡’ 두드려 쓰는데 사용 방법이 아주 쉬워서 누구라도 실수 없이 메이크업을 완성할 수 있을 것이다. 난 이 블러셔를 사용할 때는 베이스도 ‘헤라 UV 미스트 쿠션’ 등 쿠션 베이스 제품을 쓰는 편이다. 그러면 블러셔의 색이 가장 예쁘고 자연스러우면서 가볍게 발색이 되는 듯하다. 로즈핑크 외에 피치 샤벳 컬러도 인기가 있는데 핑크를 좋아하는 사람이면 더 선호할 만한 사랑스러운 색상이다. 색감은 더 짙어지게 할 수 있지만 두껍거나 부자연스럽게 발리지 않는 것도 강점이다. 마무리감까지 완벽해 가벼운 봄 메이크업에는 제격이라 요즘 가장 자주 쓰는 제품이 바로 이 제품이다.

특별히 광채와 투명성을 더 높이고 싶을 때 쓰는 제품은 ‘에뛰드 하우스’의 ‘황금비율 페이스 글램 2호’다. 핑크 톤이 하이라이터인 이 제품은 쉬머 제품으로 반짝이가 들어간 글리터 제품이 아니라 더 마음에 든다.

제품은 액체형으로 플라스틱 용기에 스파츌라가 같이 내장돼 있다. 액체로 된 하이라이터를 광대뼈에 점을 찍듯 발라주고 눈썹뼈에는 손가락으로 펴발라 준다. 그 다음 더 두드려 준다. 이러한 액체형 하이라이터의 경우 매우 가볍게 발려야지 그렇지 않으면 베이스 메이크업을 뭉치게 하는 등 망쳐버릴 수도 있으니 주의해야 한다. 제대로 사용하면 낮 시간에는 자연스러운 빛을 더해주고 밤시간에는 더욱 윤이 나는 돋보이는 피부 표현이 가능하다는 장점이 있다.

난 봄 여름 시즌에는 아이 메이크업도 가볍게 하는 것을 선호하는 편이다. 특히 한국의 습한 기온에는 더욱 그럴 필요가 있다. 일 년 내내 아이 메이크업 컬러로는 브론즈, 골드, 누드, 브라운 톤을 선호하는데 이런 색상을 보다 가벼운 톤으로 즐기기 위해서 2종의 ‘미샤’ 아이섀도를 선택했다. 이들은 매트한 편으로 하루 종일 지속된다.

첫 번째 아이섀도는 미샤의 MBE01 컬러로 납작한 붓으로 눈두덩이에 펴발라주면 뉴트럴한 음영이 생겨난다. 이때 즐겨 쓰는 도구는 일본 브러시인 하쿠호도 J532호다. 이 제품은 색이 강한 편이 아니라 위에 다른 색상을 얹어주는데 브라운 컬러의 MBR03 제품을 작고 단단한 하쿠호도 J533 브러시 등으로 눈꺼풀과 속눈썹에 발라주면 된다. 그 다음에 넓고 큰 브러시로 양쪽 눈두덩을 펴발라 줘 보다 자연스럽게 색상이 섞이도록 마무리하면 보다 완벽하고 일상생활에도 무리 없이 자연스러운 아이 메이크업이 완성된다. 게다가 가격도 굉장히 저렴한 편.

가벼운 메이크업도 좋지만 더욱 시선을 잡아끄는 눈을 연출하기 위해서는 브라운 마스카라와 브라운 아이라이너를 활용하는 방법이 좋다. 일본에서 구입한 ‘돌리윙크’ 브라운 마스카라를 사용하면 마이크로파이버(Microfibers) 성분이 속눈썹을 더 길고 풍성하게 만들 수 있다. 이 제품도 번지거나 흐를 염려가 없어 덥고 습한 날씨에 더욱 강하다. 브라운 컬러이지만 어두운 편으로 눈을 더욱 돋보이게 하면서도 자연미를 놓치지 않는다. 이와 유사하게 클리오 워터프루프 펜라이너를 가지고 윗 속눈썹 라인을 따라서 그려주면 너무 강하거나 뚜렷하지 않으면서 일상에도 자연스럽게 어울리는 화장이 된다. 평소에도 얇은 아이라인을 만들어주고 사용법이 쉬운 클리오 아이라이너를 선호한다. 게다가 지속성도 높은 편으로 하루종일 지워지지 않는다. 가격은 1만8000원대로 조금 비싼 편이지만 오래 사용할 수 있어 경제적이다. 앞서 말한 돌리윙크의 마스카라와의 조합이 특히 좋다.

이 봄 메이크업의 완성은 뭐니뭐니 해도 분홍빛 입술이 될 것이다. 개인적으로는 코랄, 오렌지, 레드 컬러의 립 제품은 멀리하고 핑크 색상을 좋아하지만 각자의 피부톤에 따라 골라주면 된다. 최근 가장 즐겨 쓰는 립 제품은 ‘라네즈 인텐스 립젤’ 1호다.

촉감이 촉촉하고 찐득거리지 않는데다 색감도 차분한 핑크 색상으로 너무 과감하고 밝은 색은 아니라서 일상생활이나 직장에서도 잘 어울린다. 다만 부자연스러운 마무리감으로 인해 손가락으로 펴발라 줄 필요가 있다는 것이 불만이다. 그때마다 손에 묻은 제품을 씻어줘야 해 번거롭다.

립글로스 제품 중에서는 저렴한 편이 아닌 2만원대 제품이지만 충분한 가치가 있다. 케이스만 해도 너무 예쁘지 않나?

My Top 5 Spring Makeup Picks

The cherry blossoms have been in full bloom this week and Seoul is at its prettiest. Spring is my favourite time of year in Korea, as the flowers throw colour onto the city landscape and we’re finally able to wander around in skirts and sunglasses. So what better time than to write about my favourite pieces of spring makeup? At this time of year I tend to incorporate a lot of pink, dewy skin, and light eye makeup. I go for a fresh, light, feminine look, and here are my top five products to achieve that.

First up is the Iope Cushion Blusher in Rose Pink. The cushion blush comes in the exact same packaging as the Iope Air Cushion, only smaller and cuter! Rose Pink is a light pink colour, and it looks so natural when it’s blended in. The cushion is also available in Peach Sherbet, which others may prefer to pink. I apply it with the same patting motion as I would my base. I always pair it with a cushion base (it looks particularly beautiful with my Hera UV Mist Cushion), and it gives the most pretty, natural, airbrushed, dewy flush. It’s very easy to apply and I don’t think anyone can make a mistake with this product…the colour is buildable and because of the light consistency it doesn’t cake or look unnatural. The finish is fantastic and I turn to this blusher so frequently to complete my light natural spring makeup.

For extra glow and dewiness, I use the Etude House Golden Ratio Face Glam in No.2. It’s a 2 in 1 pink toned highlighter, and it’s shimmery, NOT glittery- thank goodness. The packaging is a plastic bottle, with a spatula for application of the liquid highlighter, and a flip lid where the cream highlighter is held. I apply the liquid in dots along my cheekbones, and apply the cream highlighter along my brow bone with my finger. I pat both of the highlighters in. The liquid needs to be applied very lightly and patted, or else it is difficult to blend and can smudge or mess up base makeup. If applied correctly, it gives a beautiful finishing touch to daytime makeup, or added glow for night time.

I tend to lighten my eye makeup as we move into spring and summer, especially in a humid climate like Korea. Throughout the year I always opt for bronzes, golds, nudes and browns on my eyes, and for lighter options of these tones, my two Missha eyeshadows are great choices. They are matte and they last really well throughout the day. First I sweep MBE01, which is a very neutral shade, across my whole eyelid with a thick flat brush, like my Hakuhodo J532. It is not extremely pigmented so I try to build the colour. Then I apply the brown MBR03 into the crease of my eyelid or along my lashline with a small firm brush like my Hakuhodo J533. I use a large soft eye makeup brush over both of them to ensure good blending, and it is as quick as that. They are so easy to apply and give definition to the eye in a completely natural way. They are great for everyday use, and also extremely affordable.

As I’ve said, I like to keep my eye makeup light, but I also like to draw attention to my eyes, as they are the main feature I like to accentuate on my face. To make my eyes stand out, but to ensure a natural look, I have really started to enjoy how brown mascara and brown eyeliner work for me.

I bought this Dolly Wink Brown Mascara in Japan and it lengthens and thickens my eyelashes with microfibers. I’m also fairly certain it is waterproof (it wasn’t written in English on the packaging) as I have had no issues at all with running or smudging, which is so crucial as the weather gets warmer and more humid. It’s a very dark brown so it makes my lashes stand out, but maintains a natural look. Similarly, the Clio Waterproof Pen Liner in Kill Brown is great for daily use along my upper lashline- the brown makes the lining less harsh and less obvious. I always use Clio liners because they are the easiest option to achieve a very thin line and I feel in control using them. They are easier than many of the other liquid liners I’ve used! They also last so well, all day. They're a little more expensive, at around ₩18,000, but the product lasts a really long time. I love the combination of these two brown products for daytime.

To finish off a spring time look I feel like pink lips are pretty much essential for me! I really suit pink lips colours and tend to stay away from corals and orange/red based lip products, but these are also a great vibrant option for different skin tones. One of my current favourites is my Laneige Intense Lip Gel in no.1. The texture feels great, moisturising and not sticky. This shade is a dusty kind of pink and is great for casual days or work, as it's not too bold and bright, but enough to give a pop of colour. My only complaint is that to avoid a painted on or unnatural finish, I do have to blend with my finger, which is irritating if I'm out and can't wash my hands. Aside from this, I love this lip product and it makes any makeup look instantly more feminine and pretty. It's not the cheapest lip gloss at around ₩20,000, but for me it was worth it. And just look at that packaging!
