임순팔은 꽃을 소재로 한 작업으로 일관해 왔다. 따스한 햇살과 바람을 맞으며 자라는 싱싱한 자연의 꽃들이다. 들길, 시냇가 그리고 들판에 흐드러지게 피어있는 들꽃에 시선을 고정시킨다.
Lim Soon-pal has constantly worked with the subject matter of flowers. They are fresh flowers in nature, exposed to warm sunlight and breezes. They are in full bloom along field paths, by streams, and on plains.

소소한 들꽃을 애정이 담긴 따스한 눈길로 응시하는, 그 자신의 작가적인 세계관이 읽혀지는 것이다. 들꽃에 대한 관심은 다름 아닌 자연과 세상에 대한 애정의 표현인 셈이다. 너무나 익숙한 꽃들이기 때문일까, 그의 꽃그림과 마주하면 이상하리만치 담담하고 차분해진다. 시골길을 걸어가다가 들꽃과 만났을 때 느끼는 일상적인 감정의 여울에도 미치지 못할 만큼 감정이 가라앉는 기분이다.
Her view of the world is read in her warm-hearted gaze toward even trivial wild flowers. Her concern with wild flowers is a manifestation of her affection for nature and the world. If one views her flowers, he or she becomes strangely composed and placid, feeling familiarity. Wild flowers one sees in a fieldpath cause viewers to feel subdued.

이는 소소한 들꽃의 모양새는 물론 감정을 순간적으로 누그러뜨리는 그 특유의 절제된 색채이미지에 기인한다. 파스텔조 또는 회색조로 일별할 수 있는 낮은 색채의 정조가 그와 같은 시각적인 이미지를 불러들인다.
This feeling derives from plain wildflowers and temperate colors, low-key tones such as pastel and gray. Her application of dense colors demanding hard labor is perhaps a decisive factor that purifies her work’s palette.

그의 작업은 한마디로 자연미를 회화적으로 재해석하는데 있다. 색깔이나 모양에 상관없이 저마다 고유의 형태 및 색채를 지닌 자연의 꽃을 통해 세상의 아름다움 그 실상을 보여주려는 것이다.
In a word, Lim’s work is a pictorial interpretation of the beauty of nature. She intends to show the beauty of nature through flowers with diverse inherent forms and colors.

서양화가 임순팔 작가는 세종대 회화과를 졸업했으며 인사아트센터, KCAF8∼9th, 한국구상대제전(예술의 전당) 등 개인전을 6회 가졌다. 또 SIEAF 순천만 국제환경 아트페어(순천만), 상해아트페어(상해, MuLin Gallery)등 다수의 기획전에 참여했다.
