실경은 대자연에 대한 직접적인 체험을 통해 그 기운을 체험하고 포착하여 이를 표현함으로써 산수 본연의 정신을 회복하고자 하는 것이다.

Actual view landscape is to restore landscape painting’s true mind by experiencing and capturing its energy through direct experience of great nature.

작가 신동철의 작업은 바로 이러한 산수의 정신과 실경의 당위성을 전제로 이루어지는 것이라고 해설할 수 있을 것이다.

The work of Shin Dong Chul, the author, can be interpreted that it is realized with premise of this appropriateness for the mind of landscape and actual view landscape.

그는 정갈한 수묵의 절제 있는 표현과 맑고 투명한 담채의 구사로 산천의 해맑은 표정을 가감 없이 포착하여 표현해 내었다.

He expressed the untainted look of mountains and streams after capturing it without adjustment by restrained expression of nice ink-and-wash as well as the command of clean thin-coloring.

그의 화면은 분명 실경을 전제로 한 것이지만 이미 객관의 재현이라는 조건에서 벗어난 것이다. 작가는 자신의 경험과 식견, 그리고 안목을 통하여 자신이 체험한 풍광들을 재구성함으로써 전혀 다른 자연의 표정을 연출해 내고 있다.

Though his picture is done with premise of actual view landscape, it already escaped the condition of reproducing of objectivity. The author expresses absolutely different nature’s look by recomposing scene he himself experienced through his own experience, knowledge and discernment.

Daring recomposition of nature not only secures him plenty of margins available, but also is providing abundant leeway than ever before also in organic relations and orders between natural features of the seasons.

그의 작업은 점차 실경의 객관에서 산수의 이상으로 변환되며 자신의 산수적 이상향을 구축해 나가는 과정에 있는 것이라 여겨진다.

His work gets converted from actual view landscape’s objectivity to nature’s idea and is considered to be in the course of building up his landscape utopia.
